SmoothIT is an EU funded project under the FP7 programme, with a total cost of €4.4M. The objective of the SmoothIT project is to define, develop and test Economic Traffic Management (ETM) mechanisms to optimise the traffic impact of overlay applications on ISP and telecommunication operator networks based on a cooperation of network operators, overlay providers and application users.
The SmoothIT Consortium consists of 9 members including organisations from 6 European countries, combing both academia and industry. These partners are: University of Zürich – Project Coordinator (Switzerland), DOCOMO Communications Laboratories Europe GmbH (Germany), Technische Universität Darmstadt, (Germany), Athens University of Economics and Business – Research Center, (Greece), PrimeTel Plc (Cyprus), Akademia Gorniczo-Hutnicza im. Stanislawa Staszica W Krakowie, (Poland), Intracom S.A. Telecom Solutions, (Greece), Julius-Maximilians Universität Würzburg, (Germany) and Telefónica Investigación y Desarollo (Spain).
