Mobile gaming is not what it once was. While we may all remember fondly the days of playing Snake on an old, indestructible Nokia, platforms such as Apple Arcade have transformed mobile gaming. You can now do so much more than just waste time; there are a plethora of fascinating, engrossing games that compete with consoles and PC in terms of performance. Apple appears to be attempting to replicate Discord's experience.

Details on this come from 9to5Mac, which claims "reliable sources familiar with the matter." That's not much to go on, so it's understandable to be sceptical of the report, which revolves around a new app that is believed to merge features from the App Store and Game Centre, as well as chat features, into a single location.

According to the sources, the app will have numerous tabs, including one for friends and a Play Now tab that will reportedly deliver tailored game choices based on what you already enjoy playing. In addition, the app may have challenges, achievements, and high-score boards. It is not restricted to Apple Arcade; you will also be able to locate App Store games there.

The most intriguing rumour is that Apple is attempting to combine FaceTime and iMessage into this new program. It would allow you to play games with your pals while talking to them, capturing the sensation of playing together even when you are separated. In principle, the new program might function much way Discord does now. It may let your pals to send you a message or check what game you're currently playing, among other things.

An app like this feels like a natural progression of Apple's gaming platform. With Apple Arcade available on nearly every device (including Apple TV), focussing on the games' multiplayer capabilities is a no-brainer. If there's one thing gamers enjoy doing, it's playing together.
