The 2020 PlayStation hit Ghost of Tsushima will get a sequel with a fresh protagonist, era, and scenery.
Ghost of Yōtei follows Atsu, a new Ghost, as he travels through the plains at the base of Mount Yōtei in Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido) in 1603. The sequel to Tsushima takes place 300 years after the Mongol conquest of the land. In 1603, Yōtei was not under Japanese dominion. The launch trailer depicts unspoiled grasslands, snowy forests, and sun-drenched ridges studded with wildflowers, with a strong breeze sweeping across each scene. The trailer's music has a distinct cowboy twang, especially when Atsu interacts with untamed horses. She also meets a wolf, which is cool.
Sucker Punch said on the PlayStation Blog that Yōtei lacks established samurai clans like Tsushima, which inspired the sequel's unique tale. Also, this is Sucker Punch's first game designed from the ground up for the PlayStation 5.
We have massive sightlines that let you look far across the environment, whole new skies featuring twinkling stars and auroras, even more believable movement from wind on grass and vegetation, and more improvements we’ll share in the future. Our new setting also gives us the opportunity to introduce new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons.
Ghost of Yōtei is coming to PlayStation 5 in 2025.
