Apple Maps is extending beyond the app. The beta version of the service is now available on the web, similar to Google Maps.

There are currently some limitations. Maps' availability may vary by location, and it will initially be available exclusively in English on the web. Apple Maps is currently accessible via Safari and Chrome on the Mac and iPad. Chrome and Edge are the browsers that Windows PC users can use to access the service. Apple plans to expand the web experience to more languages, platforms, and browsers in the future. For now, iPhone users will need to utilize the Maps app.

Apple Maps' web version provides directions, instructions, opening hours, reviews, and other business-related information, as well as actions like ordering food. Apple plans to introduce additional capabilities, such as Look Around (their version of Street View), in the coming months.

After years of limiting Maps to an app, Apple may be attempting to compete with Google on its own terms. Google Maps, for example, has long allowed developers to integrate a map portion on their websites. Apple said developers will be able to link to its maps on the web to provide users with driving directions, location information, and other features.

Expanding beyond the app is a good idea, and it might help Apple Maps get more users. Apple Music has been available on the web for several years.
