Meta published its income report for the fourth quarter of 2021, revealing that for the first time in the tech company's history, daily active users on Facebook's platform fell from 1.93 billion to 1.92 billion.

This drop in the number of users refers to the category “Rest of World” which is users in Latin America and Africa. The disinformation about the Covid-19 pandemic, the serious scandals that have come to light in recent years, as well as the general perception that harmful posts are allowed within the platform are some of the reasons why many users stopped using Facebook.

Not only once Facebook's platform had a negative leading role in the public debate, facing serious accusations of tactics that proved to serve interests. Despite the decline that occurred in the last quarter, it will be interesting to see if the decrease in users will continue or if it will be able to get back on its feet.
