Facebook head Tom Alison has officially announced that Meta has begun testing to integrate Messenger directly within the social network's app. This is a particularly significant development, as the company had separated Messenger as a separate service about a decade ago, but it seems that it has changed its mind again, wanting to further strengthen Facebook under the threat of TikTok.

It was back in 2014 when Mark Zuckerberg was moving to make Facebook Messenger independent as a separate communication platform with the promise that it would offer a much better user experience for everyone. The truth is that in the years that followed we saw a plethora of new features, but the biggest thorn was the terrible delay in supporting end-to-end encryption to protect user privacy.

Nevertheless, Facebook Messenger is still a means of communication for hundreds of millions of people around the world, something Meta is obviously aware of and therefore intends to leverage its very strong user base in order to enrich Facebook. It is not known, however, whether the return of Messenger will be accompanied by new features.

As far as Facebook is concerned, Tom Alison is keen to point out that the social network is not only not dying, but is at its best ever with more than 2 billion active users every day.
