Google's Gemini AI chatbot is about to make your music listening experience more seamless than ever. With the most recent update, Gemini can now instantly access and play Spotify tracks on your Android device.

Gemini has been available for some time, but its powers are restricted. Users can now control Spotify straight through Gemini. This means you can avoid switching apps and instead request songs, browse playlists, or search for music using lyrics, all without leaving the Gemini interface.

The implementation is still in its early stages and has several restrictions. Currently, the Spotify plugin is only available in English in the main Gemini app. So Spotify voice controls will not work on iPhones, Gemini in Messages, or the web version. Furthermore, while basic operations like as browsing playlists are possible without a premium subscription, playing specific songs requires a Spotify Premium account.

Setting up the Spotify plugin is simple. As long as your Spotify account is linked to your Google account, you can just ask Gemini to do something like "play some jazz music" or "search for the new Taylor Swift song." If your accounts aren't already connected, Gemini will walk you through the procedure during the first setup.

This merging of Gemini and Spotify represents Google's second step towards a more unified and voice-controlled user experience. While they already provided similar features for YouTube Music in Gemini, Spotify has a larger user base, so this is a huge addition.
