Google's ambition to integrate AI into all of its apps and services continues this week, with Gmail launching a new AI-powered search tool.
In a blog post, Google described "a smarter search feature powered by AI to show Gmail users the most relevant results, faster." Google's email service formerly displayed emails containing relevant keywords in chronological order.
Going forward, Gmail users will be able to get the most relevant search results based on a variety of factors, including recency, most-clicked emails, and frequent contacts. As a result, Gmail users should be able to discover the specific email they're seeking for faster and without having to browse endlessly through emails from months or years past.
Gmail said the AI-powered tool is now available internationally to all users with personal Google accounts. They can access it via the web and the Gmail app for Android and iOS. Once it is accessible, users can choose between "most relevant" and "most recent" results. In the future, Google hopes to deliver the future to corporate users as well.
Google has made numerous AI-related announcements in recent weeks. Google has announced a number of Gemini capabilities, including a new Canvas feature that matches ChatGPT's Canvas and Audio Overviews, which allow Gemini users to convert any submitted document into a podcast-style debate between two AI presenters.
