The ability to predict when it would be most cost-effective to plan a specific trip has long been one of Google's fly shopping tool's most helpful features. Google is now focusing on that use case with a new function that specifically states when flights are anticipated to become more inexpensive.
Google Flights already displays how the cost of your travel contrasts with historical data, indicating whether the current prices are lower, more costly, or average in comparison to the norm. As of this week, Flights will also provide an AI-generated snippet (see the Bard symbol in the animation below) that details the times that rates are normally the lowest. It refers to "searches with reliable trend data."
This function deals with the daily swings in ticket costs rather than helping you locate travel dates that can be less expensive. With this upgrade, Google Flights should be able to reasonably predict whether booking now or waiting until later would be less costly for you. It will even tell you when "later" will be, giving you a window of time where costs are expected to be at their lowest.
As Google notes, this function will combine well with other Google Flights features like price tracking and price guarantees, a more recent Google Flights feature that allows Google to reimburse you for any overpayment made if the cost of a particular ticket drops after you've booked it. According Google, the new AI-powered pricing insights should start showing up this week.
