In an constantly evolving world, Google recognizes that Google Maps is more than just a tool to find your destination. Many companies rely on it to get reviews from their customers and the possibility of falling victim to malicious comments can significantly damage their credibility.

For this reason, Google sheds more light on the procedures it follows in order to protect both businesses and users who read and rely on reviews from other users within Google Maps. The company reveals that it receives more than 20 million user reviews daily, resulting in such an important Artificial Intelligence as the dedicated team of people who undertake to check the validity of these reviews.

Thanks to these audits, in 2021 Google managed to remove and / or block more than 100 million malicious reviews, 7+ million fake profiles, 12+ million attempts to create fake business features, almost 8 million attempts by users to get their hands on their profiles that do not belong to them, 1+ million accounts that leave fake reviews or generally content that violates the Google Maps Terms of Use, while it also removed 190+ million photos and 5+ million poor quality videos.

The more the Artificial Intelligence algorithm is trained, the easier it will be to remove malicious content from Google Maps, so we expect much higher numbers by 2022.
