It's been a little over two months since the official launch of ChatGPT, the OpenAI AI tool that has managed to attract the attention of not only tech enthusiasts, but the world at large thanks to its unique text creation performance.

Google's response was not long in coming, but it could be called hasty after the news of Microsoft's investment in ChatGPT. The company has announced through its CEO, Sundar Pichai, its own similar tool called Bard, which is already being tested by trusted testers and in the coming weeks will become widely available to all users.

Bard is based on a much lighter version of LaMDA, Google's AI language model, so that it consumes significantly less computing power to run, but also to make it easy to scale for use by all users. Its functionality is similar to that of ChatGPT, i.e. it draws information from the Internet to answer each question.

Sundar Pichai stressed that Bard will not just have the ability to answer simple questions in a straightforward way, such as the Google Search engine, but will be able to handle complex topics (e.g. how to explain the discoveries of the James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old child). In addition, there will be an answer rating system (thumbs up/down) and an option to go deeper than the answer Bard gives you.

Google is expected to delve deeper into Bard at the Google Search and Google Maps event scheduled for tomorrow, February 8, 2023.
