After several months of testing, Apple eventually made iOS 18 available to the general public. If you have a compatible iPhone, you may download iOS 18 right now without registering for the Developer or Public Beta Program.
iOS 18 includes new features for personalizing your iPhone. You may now tint and move Home Screen icons around, as well as delete their labels. Additionally, icons now support dark mode.
Control Center also received a significant update, allowing users to add more controls from third-party apps, resize items, cycle across different pages, and more. Many people will be pleased with the option to alter Lock Screen controls, which were previously limited to Flashlight and Camera since the iPhone X's introduction.
iMessage now supports text formatting, more tapback emojis, satellite messages, scheduled messages, and RCS (but green bubbles remain).
iOS 18 introduces a new Passwords app, which is now a full-featured password manager with two-factor authentication, password sharing, and cross-platform support. It's compatible with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision Pro, and even Windows via the iCloud app.
iPhones are increasingly more capable of playing games. Dedicated Game Mode can limit background activities to maintain performance and greater frame rates, lower audio delay when using AirPods, and reduce controller input lag.
Speaking of AirPods, you can now engage with Siri by nodding or moving your head while wearing them, indicating yes or no. AirPods Pro now enable voice isolation, which improves mic quality when making calls in windy or noisy environments.
The Notes app now features live voice transcription, automatic computations, collapsible sections, and text highlighting.
Other iOS 18 additions include Eye Tracking, the option to lock any app with FaceID, TouchID, or passcode, a revised Calculator with Math Notes, Calendar enhancements, call recording new features for the Home app, a redesigned Reader in Safari, revisions to the Photos app, and more. Later this year, iOS 18 will include Apple Intelligence support and changes to the Mail app.
