Artificial intelligence has been transforming the way people write and search for information on the internet, but it appears that Meta may have another application for the technology. According to a recent FT article, the Mark Zuckerberg-led business may introduce AI bots on social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.
According to the source, the business will launch a number of new AI products in order to keep its user base and attract a younger audience, including one that allows users to create AI characters on both Instagram and Facebook.
According to Connor Hayes, Meta's vice-president of product for generative AI, they "expect these AIs to actually, over time, exist on our platforms, kind of in the same way that accounts do".
He went on to clarify that, like our profiles, these AI bots will have bios and profile images, as well as the ability to develop and share AI-powered content. As it turns out, Meta will be employing AI Studio to create the AI-generated characters.
For those who aren't aware, Meta's AI Studio allows users to design an AI persona based on their hobbies, as well as an AI extension of themselves. While the device is presently only available in the United States, Meta intends to make it more widely available later this year.
While the choice may not be popular with the majority of social media users, it does have certain advantages. For example, if someone posts fake news on Facebook, an AI bot may assist identify it and alert others that the material is wrong. However, the contrary may be true as well.
