Microsoft has officially announced that is adding end-to-end encryption (E2EE) security support to Teams for all one-to-one calls. IT admins will now be able to integrate and control this feature in their organizations.
Multiple enterprise customers in the US and Europe across industries such as aerospace, manufacturing, telecommunications, and professional services are in the process of rolling out E2EE for Teams calls
Microsoft Teams now encrypts data in transit and at rest, allowing authorized services to decrypt content for the purposes of data retention. Microsoft also uses SharePoint encryption to secure files, as well as OneNote encryption for notes saved in Microsoft Teams. All chat content is also encrypted.
The new end-to-end encryption will secure one-to-one calls within Teams, which automatically means that certain features in the service, such as recording, call merge, or adding participants when creating a group call will be disabled in one-to-one calls that use E2EE.
