Microsoft introduced the capability to run Android applications natively in Windows 11 in 2021, but the feature is being discontinued after only a few years. Today, the firm discreetly updated its documentation for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) to reflect that support for the feature will stop on March 5, 2025. Amazon has issued revised instructions for the Amazon App Store on Windows 11, which enables the WSA.

What is triggering this shift is unknown, as Microsoft did not go into specifics. We can surmise that it is due to a lack of use or license concerns, but until we learn more, the situation remains opaque.

At any rate, Microsoft has said that the Amazon App Store, as well as any games and apps that use the WSA, would no longer be supported beginning March 5, 2025, precisely one year from now. Until then, Microsoft will continue to provide technical assistance for the issue, but the Amazon App Store will no longer be available on the Microsoft Store.

If you installed any applications from the Amazon App Store before March 5, 2024, you will still be able to access them until March 5, 2025, albeit certain apps may not function properly. According to Amazon, developers will not be required to take any action during the wind-down period, but new app submissions will not be accepted in the near future. The Amazon App Store will no longer be supported on Windows 11, although it will be available on other platforms such as Amazon's Fire devices and Android tablets.

It's not uncommon for Microsoft to devalue and delete Windows functionality, but the news may be disappointing for Windows fans. Many individuals have utilized the WSA to sideload Android apps and improve the performance of devices such as the Surface Pro 9.Other alternatives to the WSA exist, however they are more difficult to implement. Blue Stacks will be among the possibilities available in 2025. Microsoft's Phone Link program allows you to stream Android apps from your phone to your PC.
