Although Nearby Share is a very useful tool, Google has so far failed to turn it into a true Apple AirDrop equivalent for its ecosystem. The company, however, has not stopped upgrading the tool and is gradually adding even more features to make it easier for users to transfer their files and applications from device to device.

The latest finding is the Self Share feature, which has been tested since early January and is quite likely to be officially unveiled at the upcoming Google I / O 2022 conference on May 11-12, 2022. This feature will allow users to transfer files such as photos, documents, videos, but also applications between devices where the same Google account is used without the need for approval from the receiving device.

So far, Nearby Share allows you to transfer files between devices on the same Google account, but you must first approve the transfer from the second device for the process to proceed. With Self Share, this prerequisite ceases to exist and clearly the transfer is much faster and easier, as is the case with Apple AirDrop for devices with the same Apple ID.

It is not ruled out that when the days of Google I / O 2022 arrive, even more new features related to Nearby Share will be announced, along with all the latest for Android 13 and the other applications - services - projects of Google.
