Opera has officially unveiled the new Opera One web browser, which is intended to replace the company's current browser of the same name later this year. Opera One incorporates a host of new features, including a revamped user environment enhanced with AI tools and a new tab management system.
In the UI we see more curves in the different elements of the web browsers (e.g. shortcuts and tabs), but the overall philosophy remains the same as the current Opera browser.
The company notes that Opera One is the first web browser based on the Chromium engine with built-in Multithreaded Compositor, which significantly improves performance in various animations (higher speed, lower energy consumption and memory usage) as it takes advantage of the capabilities of the device's graphics processor.
Another important new feature is Tab Islands. This is an automated function to group the user's open tabs based on their subject matter rather than their origin. For example, if the user has opened several cooking recipes from different websites, Opera One's AI will recognize them and automatically group them into a Tab Island. Of course, the user will be provided with the ability to edit and save these Tab Islands for easy future access.
Finally, Opera One integrates the AI tools ChatGPT and ChatSonic in the sidebar for direct one-click access to productive AI, as well as AI Prompts to help create article summaries, identify highlights, create tweets, etc.
Opera One is available in Developer Preview version and later in 2023 we expect it on Windows, macOS and Linux.
