The PlayStation 5 released in November 2020, however, Sony’s console is still scarce in retail. In fact, Sony Chief Financial Officer, Hiroki Totoki stated that these shortages will continue until 2022.

"I don't think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn't be able to catch up with demand," Totoki said.

The main reason for the low PS5 supply is the shortage of chips, which impacts almost everything from graphics cards to PS5s.

It should be mentioned that even there is a "crisis" regarding the supply of PlayStation 5, sales of the PS5 exceed by far those of the PS4.
