On July 5, 2023, Meta officially released Threads. The text-based social network was designed to compete with X, which was then known as Twitter. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on his Threads account that the site now has over 175 million monthly active users, less than a year after its introduction.
Threads was a bare-bones social network when it first launched, but it gradually expanded with new features. Initially available on Android and iOS, the network later expanded to include a desktop version. Originally, an Instagram account was required to have a Threads account. However, Meta later developed a feature that allows users to remove their Threads account without losing their Instagram account. Meta introduced a dedicated Threads app for Windows 10 and 11 earlier this year.
According to Meta, 63% of Threads posts are still text-only. However, the business claims that one in every four Threads posts includes at least one image. According to the story, nearly 50 million Tags were created in Threads. The top three tags are PhotographyThreads, BookThreads, and GymThreads.
Threads was established by Meta to compete more directly with Twitter, which many people were dissatisfied with after Elon Musk took control of the company and renamed it X.
Twitter issued a legal letter to Meta the day after Threads began, accusing the firm of hiring "dozens of former Twitter employees" and potentially utilizing trade secrets. So yet, X's threatened lawsuit has not materialized.
Musk just said on X that his service now has 600 million monthly active users, with approximately 300 million daily users.
