Late last year, Apple provided US consumers with access to the Self Service Repair Diagnostics program, a critical tool for self-repair. This program is now being distributed in 32 European nations (and will soon be available in Canada).

This app allows you to diagnose and troubleshoot faulty or broken components on one product while using a second Apple device. It will walk you through the process using on-screen suggestions. When it's finished, you'll know if anything is truly broken and what parts you need to obtain to repair the gadget.

Okay, you may not have the expertise to replace the broken parts with new ones, but this will at least confirm that something is wrong and has to be repaired. This tool is also useful for unauthorized repair companies, which you may prefer over a licensed Apple repair center. Apple permits people and third-party shops to repair iPhones with genuine parts (and offers a service to verify authenticity).

The Self Service Repair Diagnostics tool is not limited to iPhones; it can also analyze Macs and studio screens. It is currently available in 33 countries and 24 languages.

The Self Service Repair program provides access to actual parts, tools, and manuals for 42 Apple products. As of recently, this has included new MacBook Airs with M3 processors. These are the same components, tools, and manuals used by Apple Store employees and Authorized Service Providers.
