Microsoft will release Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the next installment in Activision's popular first-person shooter franchise, on Day One for Xbox Game Pass subscribers. Microsoft's formal announcement was made on the Xbox Wire website. Some Xbox users received notifications before the formal reveal.

The arrival of Black Ops 6 to Xbox Game Pass marks a significant shift for the franchise. It will almost probably help increase Microsoft's subscription numbers. The company announced earlier this year that it had 34 million subscribers.

Unverified reports suggest that Microsoft may introduce a more costly Xbox Game Pass plan just for Black Ops 6. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is now available for $16.99 a month and grants access to hundreds of PC and Xbox games in addition to Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Activision Blizzard was formally acquired by Microsoft in October 2023, but the company has been sluggish to add the publisher's games to Xbox Game Pass thus far. In fact, Activision Blizzard's Diablo IV, which was introduced in late March, is the only game from the company that is presently accessible on the service.

Activision released a live action teaser trailer for Black Ops 6 on YouTube concurrent with the introduction of the Xbox Game Pass. Actors play real-life figures such as the late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, former UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and former Presidents Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush.

Once more, the teaser trailer appears to corroborate previous reports that Black Ops 6, which Treyarch is mostly developing, will take place in part in the early 1990s Gulf War.

On June 9, Microsoft will showcase Black Ops 6 gameplay during its Xbox Games Showcase event. This will be followed by the Black Ops 6 Direct event.
