After the much-lauded acquisition of Twitter was completed, Elon Musk has launched a series of major changes concerning the most popular social network in order to improve both its functions and its profitability. The next step, as he confirmed, is nothing more than the creation of a subscription that will exempt users from advertisements.

Elon Musk believes that the ads that appear on Twitter are frequent and large enough that they become annoying for users who spend a lot of time on the platform. So he announced that his team is working on a new ad display model, as well as a new, higher subscription package that will remove ads entirely, but he's not revealing more details for now.

In case you didn't know, Twitter has relaunched the Twitter Blue subscription in some countries, which costs $11/month if you use the service through Android and iOS devices and $8/month if you visit it from a web browser. The difference in price is due to the fact that Apple and Google keep a 30% commission on transactions made through the App Store and Google Play Store respectively.

At this stage, Twitter Blue subscribers still see ads and their privileges are limited to the famous edit button (editing the tweet after it is published), long-form tweets (for posting long tweets) and the account verification badge their.

Many are calling the cost quite high, and there will clearly be further backlash for the upcoming ad-free subscription package, unless Twitter decides to give more perks in some way. What is certain is that Twitter Blue will be expanded very soon to as many countries as possible, with those of the European Union just around the corner.
