Facebook adds a tag to pages that post fake or misleading news to combat the spread of misinformation. When a user is about to like a Facebook page that shares misleading content, a tag will appear stating: "This page shares misinformation repeatedly".
Facebook will also punish individual accounts that share misleading news by restricting their presence on the platform's News Feed.
Additionally, the company has optimized its notifications to detect misleading news, making it easy to pinpoint the sources of fake news and immediately correct the details by fast-checkers.
It should be mentioned that last night Facebook stated that it won’t proceed with the removal of posts saying that the coronavirus was manufactured in a lab. The company told Politico that the move came after "consultation with public health experts".
