In a new blog post, Google revealed a new Gemini update that allows you to add events right from your emails. This is how it works. When Gemini recognises calendar-related text in your email, a "Add to Calendar" button will display directly below the email subject.

Clicking this will bring up a sidebar verifying that the event has been added to your Google Calendar (added events do not include guests). If Gemini gets the event wrong or you want to amend the event details for whatever reason, click the pencil symbol to edit it.

If you have already purchased the Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons, you will also get this feature.

The rollout begins today, although when you receive it depends on your account's release track. Rapid Release customers will see it as soon as it is ready, but Scheduled Release users will receive it on a predetermined schedule, typically a week later. The implementation is scheduled to take some time, with complete availability by mid-April 2025.

There are additional things to consider. This functionality is currently only available in English and on the web. "Add to Calendar" is not possible for emails containing previously extracted events (such as flights).

Gemini is Google's response to the popular ChatGPT LLM chatbot. Google has recently improved the interaction between Gemini and its Workspace products, such as Gmail and Docs.

For example, in August last year, the business introduced a Gemini-powered Q&A tool called Gmail Q&A, which let users to ask questions about their emails and receive responses. Gemini in Gmail can also summarise emails, suggest responses, and create graphics in Slides, among other things.
