Google's Gemini AI now supports over 40 languages, making it more accessible to teenagers internationally. Gemini has additional regulations and safeguards in place, so parents do not need to worry.
In addition to the precautions, teenagers will go through a "specific onboarding process" to learn how to use Gemini properly, and they will have access to an AI literacy handbook.
Google commented on the expansion:
Gemini is designed to be a helpful tool for teenagers. It can spark creativity and encourage them to explore their passions. From understanding school subjects to tackling major milestones like preparing for university, Gemini is here to help teenagers learn and grow.
When Google announces that teens can now use Gemini, it usually implies that anyone aged 13 and above can use it, although there are some exceptions. For example, in Cyprus, you must be 14 years or older to utilize it.
Gemini's guardrails are already quite strict, especially for adults. Given the sensitivity of political influence, Google has a blanket restriction on questions regarding current politics, and while it responds, it is also careful on legal and medical issues - presumably with good cause.
While there has been much concern about AI's propensity to assist students cheat on their schoolwork, technologies like Gemini can also be quite effective for learning. For example, if you're using Gemini to learn a new idea and still don't understand, you can ask a follow-up question or request an ELI5 explanation to help you comprehend.
