Instagram is launching a feature that allows you to limit interactions with people who aren't on your close friends list. This means you'll only see comments, direct messages, story replies, tags, and mentions from people you've added to your close friends list.

Other followers can still interact with your postings, but their comments and messages will not be visible to others or you. This tool is geared for teenagers, but anyone can use it to minimize interactions with unpleasant individuals.

Once you've switched it on, you'll be reminded to turn it off after a specific length of time. You can also limit conversations to recent followers and/or users who do not follow you.

You can also limit individual accounts (without barring them) so that they don't know you're online or have read their messages. Furthermore, their messages to you will not appear in your DM inbox but will be redirected to Message Requests. Their new comments on your posts will only be visible to you and them, and when they attempt to tag or mention you, they will see a message stating that you do not allow everyone to do so.
