Take-Two Interactive has officially announced that Mafia: The Old Country, the long-rumored prequel to the acclaimed Mafia series, will launch on August 8, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Developed by Deck 13, the title promises a raw, narrative-driven third-person action experience set in 1900s Sicily, offering fans a deeper dive into the origins of the Cosa Nostra.
The announcement came alongside a brand-new, age-restricted gameplay trailer that showcases the title’s atmospheric setting and brutal mob-centric action. Pre-orders are now open, and those who reserve the game early will receive the Soldato Pack, which includes exclusive character and weapon cosmetics as well as a unique Charm for the game’s protagonist, Enzo Favara.
Described as a gritty mob story, Mafia: The Old Country traces the early days of organized crime. Players will step into the shoes of Enzo, a young man who, after enduring a harsh childhood filled with forced labor, seeks to rise through the ranks of the powerful Torrisi crime family. The game explores themes of loyalty, ambition, and sacrifice in a world where power is earned through blood and betrayal.
“Enzo will do anything for a better life,” the studio said in a statement. “His oath to the Cosa Nostra, with all the power, temptation, and hardship it entails, is a burning reminder of this simple truth: Family Takes Sacrifice.”
What makes this installment unique is its historical prequel status, placing it ahead of the events of the original trilogy. Set during a volatile and violent era in Sicilian history, the game promises a highly cinematic, linear experiencedesigned to immerse players in the early foundations of the Mafia world.
In a surprise move, the pricing model for Mafia: The Old Country breaks away from current AAA trends. The Standard Edition will retail at $49.99, while the Deluxe Edition—which includes extra thematic weapons, cosmetic upgrades, and both race car and horse accessories—is priced at $59.99. This is notably lower than the $70–$80 range now common in the industry.
Deck 13 and Take-Two explained the reasoning behind this classic pricing strategy, stating:
“The game delivers a compelling story that doesn’t require a massive time commitment, and we believe these prices reflect the value of this highly polished, linear narrative experience.”
This positioning aligns Mafia: The Old Country with fans of focused, story-first gameplay that doesn’t rely on bloated open worlds or live-service mechanics.
With a compelling period setting, dramatic mob narrative, and refined pricing strategy, Mafia: The Old Country is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing releases of 2025. Its commitment to storytelling and historical immersion could make it a standout entry in the growing list of cinematic action games.
The game officially launches on August 8, 2025, and is available now for pre-order across all major platforms.
