Meta found inspiration from the Telegram app to introduce its own equivalent channel feature on Instagram. The company's CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, officially announced Broadcast Channels through...his, followed by the related and more detailed update on the official blog.

Instagram's Broadcast Channels are essentially "rooms" that content creators can open to post messages, announcements, updates, etc. about their work there, which their followers can see. The latter are not able to participate in these rooms, except to leave reactions with emoji or votes in the polls of content creators.

As an example, you can think of a musician's Broadcast Channel. Through this he can inform the audience about his live performance dates, locations, new albums, collaborations, etc.

The way Broadcast Channels work and inform users is as follows: once the Channel is created, followers will receive a single notification informing them if they want to join that Channel. This means that you will be able to be a follower, but if you do not wish to be a follower you will not join the Channel. From there, there will be options for displaying notifications coming from the Channel (all, some, mute) and of course the ability to opt out whenever you wish.

The start is in the US for certain content creators and only through Instagram's mobile apps. At a later time it will expand globally, as well as to Messenger and Facebook.
