According to CNBC, Facebook parent company Meta plans to produce a standalone AI software that will compete with technologies like as OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Microsoft's Copilot.

The next AI app will join Meta's existing offerings, which include Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. Recent reports have also stated that Meta may soon develop a Reels app, separating the Instagram functionality into its own product.

Meta intends to launch a Meta AI app in the second quarter of 2025, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg intending to become the AI leader by the end of the year.

Meta's AI product is already integrated into apps like Facebook and Instagram as a search feature, but it shares some of the same generative powers as other AI companies. Meta believes that a standalone app will enable consumers to connect more intimately with its AI helper.

While Meta AI will remain free, Meta will try a paid subscription service with potentially more sophisticated capabilities.
