Microsoft brings Age of Empires and Age of Mythology to PlayStation 5 for the first time!

In an unexpected move, Microsoft plans to distribute two of its first-party titles on the PlayStation 5 in 2025. Xbox Game Studios created two real-time strategy games: Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.

World's Edge's launch represents a significant shift in Microsoft's gaming strategy, as the company pursues a multi-platform approach. The titles will be accessible on PS5, as well as PC, Xbox, and PlayStation platforms, with cross-play support. This effort attempts to improve the game experience and build a stronger community among players.

Age of Mythology: Retold, which will debut on the PlayStation 5 on March 4, 2025, is one of the most anticipated games. The iconic characters and gameplay features of the 2002 classic game are back in this restored version. Players can anticipate the new Immortal Pillars expansion, which will be accessible on all platforms, in addition to the original game. World's Edge CEO Michael Mann said he was thrilled to see PS5 gamers join the game. According to him, gamers will be able to choose their pantheon, go on adventures with Arkantos, and fight for divine favours.

In the spring of 2025, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, the second game, will also launch on the PlayStation 5. The developers have alluded to an interesting DLC expansion that will coincide with the premiere, even if a precise release date has not been disclosed. Both new and returning players should enjoy an improved gaming experience thanks to the new content and civilisations that this update promises to bring.

Two new DLCs for Age of Empires IV have also been announced by World's Edge; the first, called Knights of Cross and Rose, will be released that same year. These games' inclusion in the PS5 catalogue is a component of Microsoft's larger plan to release its games on competing platforms. This action is in line with Xbox CEO Phil Spencer's goal of fostering a more welcoming gaming community where users may enjoy their preferred games on any console.
