Netflix has officially announced the arrival of its popular ad-supported subscription tier for its platform, making good on what it had announced earlier in the year. The tier is called Basic with Ads and will debut on November 3 in 12 countries, with a wider worldwide launch expected in early 2023.

Basic with Ads will cost $6.99/month in the US and users will be able to watch content in HD/720p resolution, which will feature 15-30 second commercial spots at the beginning and during the screening of movies and episodes. Total ads will not exceed 4-5 minutes per hour of content. Please note that downloading for offline viewing is not supported, nor is simultaneous viewing on a second screen.

As for the rest of the subscription tiers, Netflix states that they remain as they are, with no changes in the privileges they offer and without any differentiation in their prices. The truth is that the ad tier is very close to the cost of the basic ad-free tier and it will be interesting to see if the users will choose to spare €10-12 a year to be bothered with ads.
