In October, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Search, a new feature that integrates web searches directly into the ChatGPT experience. This combines the convenience of natural language processing with real-time access to sports scores, news, stock prices, and more.
As part of the ongoing "12 Days of OpenAI" event, the company has now announced several enhancements to the ChatGPT web search feature. OpenAI also revealed that this search feature is being rolled out globally to all logged-in users across all platforms.
Based on user feedback, OpenAI has improved the speed of the search experience. Previously, users needed to click a web search icon to activate the feature. Now, ChatGPT automatically decides when to perform a web search or rely on its language model to answer questions. However, users can still click the search icon to manually initiate a web search.
Additionally, ChatGPT now allows users to watch videos directly in the chat window. For instance, when searching for a movie trailer, users can watch it within the chat. The search feature also facilitates easy access to websites when making navigational queries from the browser's address bar.
On iOS, ChatGPT Search has received a major visual upgrade for local searches. For example, searching for hotels now shows a detailed and visually appealing list with key information like operating hours and availability. You can also view local search results directly in Apple Maps within the ChatGPT app.
Finally, the ChatGPT web search experience is now available even in Advanced Voice Mode. When using this mode, ChatGPT can perform real-time web searches and respond with the most up-to-date information.
