OpenAI launched SearchGPT, a prototype of AI search features that aim to give "fast and timely answers" with "clear and relevant sources."

Currently, SearchGPT is only available to a select number of users and publishers, as OpenAI seeks input. The prototype is only temporary for the time being, but the "best" elements will eventually be added into ChatGPT.

OpenAI created SearchGPT to combine conversational capabilities with real-time information from the web, which the business claims will make it faster and easier to locate what you're looking for. SearchGPT can respond to inquiries with current information from the web. SearchGPT can answer follow-up inquiries in a conversational way, with shared context given.

OpenAI claims it is devoted to a "thriving ecosystem of publishers and creators" and wants to assist users in discovering publisher websites. SearchGPT's responses provide in-line, named credit and links to help users understand where the information is coming from, as well as a sidebar with additional source links.

Publishers can control how their content appears in SearchGPT, although OpenAI claims that SearchGPT is "about search" rather than developing generative AI models. Even if a site has not chosen to participate in generative AI training, it can nevertheless appear in search results.
