Opera has officially announced that it is preparing to integrate AI-generated content display services into its eponymous web browser for PCs and mobile devices, as well as its general shift to AI technologies to enhance all its products and services.
The new AI-based services are radically changing the landscape of possibilities offered by web browsers, and the expectations that end users have of the latter. It is no coincidence that interest in AI has exploded with the advent of ChatGPT, which has surpassed 100 million users in record time. Opera's new initiative adds to its track record of offering instant access to popular services through the web browser, such as TikTok, Telegram and WhatsApp.
The start will be made from the Opera browser sidebar, where by clicking the Shorten button, the user will immediately see a summary of the contents of the web page or article currently open.
Essentially this is a similar feature to the one Microsoft announced last week for the Edge browser. The latter highlighted that it will offer direct access to ChatGPT's AI chatbot through the Bing search engine, while the Edge browser will offer the ability to create summaries for web pages and articles, as well as to generate text for posts on social networks etc.
The Opera browser's shorten feature is already available for testing for some users and will soon be integrated into the final version of the web browser.
