A sealed copy of the Super Mario Bros. (NES) was the video game with the highest price of all time, and was auctioned for an incredible amount of $ 660,000 from the house Heritage Auctions in Dallas (USA).

The identities of the seller and the buyer have not been released, but details of the game's history have been revealed by the director of Heritage Auctions. This copy was purchased in 1986 as a Christmas gift, but it was forgotten in a drawer until it is detected again by the owner just a few weeks ago.

Valarie McLeckie, Heritage Auctions Video Games Director, said in a release:

As soon as this copy of Super Mario Bros. arrived at Heritage, we knew the market would find it just as sensational as we did. Though, I suppose we can’t be too shocked; who doesn’t love Mario? One of the earliest copies produced had plastic shrink wrap, rather than sticker seal. By early 1987, Nintendo was producing a version that had another new variation to their original packaging [in the form of] an additional ‘code.’ Since the production window for this copy and others like it was so short, finding another copy from this same production run in similar condition would be akin to looking for a single drop of water in an ocean.

It isn’t the first time that a product of Nintendo sold at such a high price. Especially for Super Mario Bros. There is a previous sales record of $ 114,000 for Super Mario Bros. 3 at $ 156,000, while in the past other titles of the company or even its old game consoles have been auctioned at very high prices.

Before you start looking in old warehouses, attics and trunks, you may want to know that is not enough to have in your possession something old. What boosts price is the condition of the copy or game console you have in your possession, which is why all auction houses place a lot of weight on their original packaging.

Next time you buy a video game, you might think better before you open it! Maybe one day it will cost a fortune if it is in excellent condition ...
