Signal, a popular privacy-focused end-to-end encrypted messaging app, has recently introduced a new call links function. This enables anyone to send a link to a call to others, who can then join with a simple click.
Previously, in Signal, users had to create a group chat, invite participants, and then begin the call. This new feature enables Signal users to invite others to a group call without having to create a group chat every time.
To make a call link, Signal users should navigate to the calls tab and select "create a call link." Users can name the link and specify whether individuals can join with or without approval. By default, users must approve others before joining a call. Group calls built with call links can accommodate up to 50 individuals. Call links are also reusable, which means you can keep them indefinitely and use them to start group calls whenever needed.
Signal, inspired by Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams, now has a "raise hand" option as well as the ability to communicate emoji replies during calls. When participants raise their hands, all users on the call can see a list of who has raised their hands. Emoji reactions can be used for quick feedback.
Signal has also added a dedicated calls page to the home screen, allowing users to view their entire call history in one spot. Users of the Signal desktop client now have three new options for viewing call participants: Grid view, Sidebar view, and Speaker view.
Finally, Signal has upgraded the call control controls, allowing users to effortlessly turn on and off their camera and microphone, as well as manage the speaker source. All of the features listed above are now available in the latest Signal apps for Android, iOS, and desktop.
