WhatsApp introduces customizable chat themes and backgrounds

WhatsApp has announced the launch of chat themes, which allow users to personalise their discussions with custom colours for both chat bubbles and backgrounds. The encrypted messaging platform will also introduce 30 additional background selections to allow users to better customise their conversation experience.

The new customisation options allow you to pick between predefined themes that change both chat bubbles and backgrounds at the same time, or you can mix and match colours to create your own unique combinations.

You can use a single theme for all of your conversations and channels, but the additional choices allow you to customise individual chats with multiple themes. WhatsApp specifies that these customisations are solely accessible to the individual who makes them, thus personal choices will not effect other persons in the discussion.

To customise the default theme for all chats, go to Settings ➝ Chats ➝ Default Chat Theme. To customise an individual chat, simply tap its name at the top of the screen. The new theme options are now being released and will be available to all WhatsApp users within the next several weeks.
