YouTube has confirmed that it will not produce its annual Rewind video this year. YouTube Rewind was practically a tribute to creators, trends, and moments that defined the platform.
The Google-owned video giant said that it will be celebrating its creators in a “different and updated kind of experience” and that the platform anticipates Rewinds from creators themselves.
YouTube’s Rewind videos scheduled for 2020 did not happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Rewinds for 2019 and for 2018 were the most disliked videos on the platform. Criticism on the Rewind stemmed mainly from accusations of overlooking certain creators and trends despite the video being a good 8 minutes long. However, YouTube has stated that is not abandoning the tradition because of the criticism.
