YouTube has announced that it will launch a new user interface for its TV app to make it more engaging while without detracting from the "lean back" feeling that big screens are known for. The revamped design allows you to watch movies in a smaller player while reading comments side by side.

YouTube noted in a blog post that it developed many prototypes and examined user input to decide that "obscuring the video would be detrimental to the viewing experience." The current design for YouTube's TV app displays comments and other UI elements above the video.

Rolling out over the next few weeks, our new design will not only improve existing functionality like accessing video descriptions and comments, but also open the door for a broad range of new experiences such as shopping for your creators’ favorite products and viewing live scores for sports fans.

The new design not only improves comments and descriptions, but also allows you to better use other features like as chapters, key plays, and shopping for items featured in videos. It also shows the amount of likes, views, and video upload date.

YouTube claimed that TV watchtime had surpassed one billion hours per day. And, while viewing TV is often seen as a "passive experience," the business hopes to encourage people to interact with the information on the large screen, it stated.

To view the new user interface, activate the on-screen controls in YouTube's TV app while watching a video and then click on the title. The redesigned look is also visible when you click the Comments button. However, after testing it on an Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, it appears that the remote's Play/Pause button only functions when the video player window is chosen.

You may also utilize the seek controls while the player is in full screen mode. YouTube intends to enhance the functionality by providing other interactive experiences such as multiview, fantasy view, and more.
