Google continues to develop Android 13 and recently released Developer Preview 2 for application developers. The first beta is expected in April and the final release in August or September, but some of the new features are already coming out and one of them is called Battery Resource Utilization.

This is a set of rules for applications that are still running in the background and specialize in their energy behavior in order to protect the battery of Android devices and the user to enjoy greater autonomy. These rules include the display of notifications to the user in case an application consumes a large amount of energy while not actively used by the user.

Simply put, Android 13 will monitor the energy behavior of applications in the background and if it finds that they are quite energy consuming it will inform the user in order to close them completely. These alerts will not disappear from the user's screen until the latter takes action, and there will clearly be some exceptions for certain types of applications.

Note that the features tested in the preview and beta versions of Android OS are not sure to be included in the final version. Google has been conducting these tests for some time with the help of developers and making its final decisions based on feedback.
