Here's something new from Apple on the subject of its software. The company released a Rapid Security Response (RSR) update for the first time a few hours ago for the general public and not just for beta testers or developers using early or trial versions of its operating systems.

These are iOS 16.4.1 (a), iPadOS 16.4.1 (a) and macOS 13.3.1 (a), which are available for iPhone, iPad and Mac computers respectively. The specificity of these RSR updates lies in the fact that they are much smaller security updates for immediate vulnerability fixes, with the user having the option to choose to install them automatically, as some of these RSR updates do not require a device reboot.

Apple began testing RSR updates with beta testers since iOS 16 was first released last fall, in an effort to provide immediate security updates in order to protect users as quickly as possible, rather than waiting to roll them out in its regular major mobile operating system updates.

Today's first RSR update can be downloaded to your device within 2-3 minutes and needs a quick restart to install to keep you covered.
