Ubisoft's next Assassin's Creed has received its first cinematic trailer, revealing the feudal Japan setting and new protagonists. The Assassin's Creed Shadows clip introduces the Shinobi and Samurai characters that players will control in this single-player RPG game.
Assassin's Creed Shadows, set in the late Sengoku period (late 16th century), has the real-life historical warrior Yasuke and a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, as protagonists. In terms of how the two protagonists' storylines intersect, Ubisoft stated:
Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ dual protagonists are ultimately brought together by Nobunaga, whose goal of unifying Japan takes his army – and Yasuke – to the province of Iga for the Second Tenshō Iga War. The Igan resistance, though greatly overpowered by Nobunaga’s army, is courageously led by Naoe’s father. The two protagonists find each other through Nobunaga, although, for obvious reasons, they don’t exactly get off to a great start.
The duo will excel at various sorts of combat. Yasuke will be a damage dealer who can use a variety of melee weapons and can withstand more hits due to his armor. His status as a Samurai will earn him respect from ordinary people. Meanwhile, as an Assassin, Naoe is the only one with a hidden blade and relies heavily on stealth and dodging-based fighting, as well as traditional parkour and gadget components. She will be able to fit in by appearing to be a peasant in urban areas.
Ubisoft also hinted that new elements such as shifting seasons as time passes in-game and employing actual shadows for stealth would be implemented in this entry. "The game world is dynamic and highly detailed, built with the goal of letting players get lost within it - and as both Naoe and Yasuke, players will have new, unique ways to connect with the beauty that surrounds them," states the business.
Assassin's Creed Shadows will be released on November 15 for PC (Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Apple silicon Macs, and Amazon Luna. The game will also be available through Ubisoft's Plus Premium subscription.
