Axiom Space has successfully launched the world's first Ax-1 mission consisting of four private astronauts, destined for the International Space Station. The launch is supported by the Falcon 9 rocket and SpaceX Dragon Endeavor spacecraft, while the crew is transported inside the Crew Dragon capsule.

The Ax-1 mission consists of Captain Michael Lopez-Alegria, a veteran NASA astronaut, pilot Larry Connor (real estate) and members Eytan Stibbe (founder of an investment fund) and Mark Pathy (founder of an investment group). Its duration will be about 10 days, with the crew members spending 8 days in the ISS to conduct 25 scientific experiments and tests of various technologies.

The ultimate goal of the Ax-1 mission, which is the first of four planned, is to test extensively the protocols, technologies and processes that will at some point lead to the creation of Axiom Space's first global commercial space station.

The Axion Station is expected to be set up from 2024 onwards, when the company's first module will be connected to the ISS. From there, the module will be detached and merged with the company's future modules to complete the commercial space station.
