Epic has shared further information about how it plans to entice developers to its newly launched mobile store. The company intends to attract more mobile game creators by offering self-publishing tools, a free games program, and lower commission rates for studios who use the Unreal Engine to create their games.

"In the holiday season, we'll open up with our first third-party applications," Epic Games Store general manager Steve Allison stated following the Unreal Fest Seattle event. "We probably expect somewhere between 10 and 50 of them to be ready, and the biggest thing is just going to be implementing a payment solution, so that may push some of these out into the subsequent months."

Allison also stated that Epic intends to offer a free mobile games program before the end of the year to help grow the storefront, along with social features, cross-platform play, and other "awesome stuff" for both consumers and creators.

"The free games program will launch in Q4 along with the third-party apps showing up, and we're gonna have some awesome stuff for players that will also be awesome for developers because it'll help us scale really quickly," Allison explained.

Epic has been offering free games weekly through the Epic Games Store for numerous years. The corporation has also publicly criticized Google and Apple's commercial practices. Epic's intentions to construct and deploy its own app store for iOS--and so avoid Apple's 30% platform fee--were stalled after Apple revoked its developer account, but the business returned to Europe in August.

Epic's app is now available on iPhones and Android devices globally, according to European Union regulations and the new Digital Markets Act.
