With Apple’s latest software iOS 14.5 update, Facebook and Instagram were extremely unhappy, because the AppTracking Transparency framework will have a great impact on them. For that cause, Facebook and Instagram for iOS have added a notice that asks users to allow tracking as it helps keep the apps ‘’free of charge’'.

However, it is obvious that telling users that ad tracking is necessary for keeping these apps free is somehow a scare tactic into making users believe that they might possibly have to pay for using these services if they choose to disable ad tracking.

Apple has made it clear that developers should explain why they want to track users’ activity across apps and websites and users should be asked for their permission to collect identifying data for showing them targeted ads. However, Facebook has chosen an almost threatening way. It should be mentioned also that Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the past hinted at the possibility of a paid version of Facebook.

It remains to be seen how users will react to this action of Facebook, and how Apple will respond to the threatening tactics of the company. Especially when Apple had made it clear that apps that violate its new rules will be excluded from the App Store.
