It has been almost a year since Facebook withdrew Instagram Lite from the Google Play Store, without explaining why this happened. However, the company announced that it will launch a new version of Instagram Lite for Android devices, which includes significant improvements and will be available in 170 countries.

The new Instagram Lite is only 2Mb size, instead of 30MB of regular application, so it occupies much less space on smartphones. If these numbers sound funny for advanced countries, it does not apply to billions of users who don’t have access to high speeds and modern equipment. In this way, Instagram manages to reach almost any user, but with some operating restrictions.

According to the deployment team, Instagram Lite allows users to take photos and videos and share them in the app, watch Stories and Reels, use GIFs and Sticker and chat with friends through Instagram Direct.

Shopping tab, creating Reels, using augmented reality filters and ads are not available in Instagram Lite. In a future upgrade, however, both AR filters and Dark Mode will be added.

Instagram Lite will show up again at Google Play for Android devices within the next few days, but so far nothing has been heard about iOS devices.
