Google introduced the Gemini 2.0 Flash variant in December, which exceeds the Gemini 1.5 Pro model on key criteria while also being twice as fast. Gemini 2.0 Flash enables multimodal inputs (images, video, and audio) as well as multimodal outputs (text, pictures, and audio).
Google has announced that the Gemini 2.0 Flash model will become the default for all Gemini app users on both the web and mobile. Google will continue to provide its older Gemini 1.5 Flash and 1.5 Pro devices over the next few weeks, allowing customers to continue their current chats.
Patrick Kane, a Gemini team member, wrote the following about Gemini 2.0 Flash's availability:
The Gemini app is now using Gemini 2.0 Flash. This model delivers fast responses and stronger performance across a number of key benchmarks, providing everyday help with tasks like brainstorming, learning or writing.
The Gemini app now includes Imagen 3, Google's cutting-edge image-generation model that can produce more accurate images based on text input with better details and textures. Both Gemini and Gemini Advanced users can simply describe the images they want to produce in text, and Gemini will generate the AI-created image. However, Gemini Advanced users can also make photos that include individuals.
Along with the new Gemini Flash 2.0 model, Gemini Advanced users will gain access to a 1M token context window, allowing them to upload a large amount of files while also having priority access to new features such as Deep Research.
The Gemini 2.0 Flash model is now available to developers via Vertex AI and AI Studio. Real-time audio and video streaming input, as well as the use of numerous combination tools, are all supported by the new Multimodal Live API. Google is continuing to provide users and developers with cutting-edge AI capabilities with the launch of the Gemini 2.0 Flash model and Imagen 3.
