Sony and Sucker Punch Productions have officially announced the release date of their highly anticipated title Ghost of Yōtei, set to arrive exclusively on PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025. Alongside this announcement, the developers also confirmed that the game will include a Greek-language interface and subtitles, making it even more accessible to international audiences.

Ghost of Yōtei is a spiritual successor to the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, but it tells a wholly new story centered around a powerful new protagonist, Atsu, in the icy landscapes of Ezo (modern-day Hokkaido). Sixteen years before the events of the game, Atsu was brutally attacked by a ruthless gang known as the Yōtei Six. Her family was murdered, and she was left for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree by a katana. But Atsu survived.

Driven by vengeance and fortified through years of exile and training, she returns to her homeland with a list of names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito—the six individuals responsible for her past trauma. One by one, she will hunt them down, using the very weapon that was once meant to end her life.

The newly released trailer, titled “The Onryō’s List”, offers a glimpse into the haunting, atmospheric world of Ghost of Yōtei, blending mythical Japanese folklore with the harsh realities of survival and revenge. As Atsu explores the diverse terrains of Ezo—from frozen forests to sacred mountains—she will uncover both unexpected allies and dark secrets that challenge her thirst for vengeance.

While the plot begins as a classic revenge story, Sucker Punch promises emotional depth and character development that will push players to reconsider Atsu’s motivations as the game progresses. A new gameplay mechanic allows players to experience flashbacks to pivotal moments from Atsu’s past, offering insights into her emotional and physical journey.

Building upon the foundation of Ghost of Tsushima, Ghost of Yōtei features a more open-ended exploration systemthat encourages players to forge their own path. Players will choose the order in which they pursue the members of the Yōtei Six, allowing for a more nonlinear progression.

In addition to the main narrative, players can pursue side objectives, such as tracking down other dangerous fugitives for bounties or locating legendary sensei to unlock new combat techniques. These elements offer a deeper level of RPG-style growth and customization.

Ezo is described as both wild and wondrous, filled with natural beauty and lurking dangers. Familiar mechanics return, including meditative rest stops, while new features allow players to set up camp anywhere—even lighting fires under the stars for moments of quiet reflection and recovery.

As with previous titles from Sucker Punch, Ghost of Yōtei promises cinematic storytelling, dynamic combat, and breathtaking visuals—further elevated by next-gen performance on PS5. The confirmation of Greek-language support underscores the studio’s commitment to broad international engagement.

Pre-orders for Ghost of Yōtei open May 2, 2025, and fans can expect more reveals in the coming months, including expanded gameplay demos and story trailers.

In what’s shaping up to be one of the most emotionally driven and visually striking games of the year, Ghost of Yōteioffers a tale of revenge, identity, and redemption set against the backdrop of one of Japan’s most rugged landscapes. For fans of action, drama, and open-world freedom, October can’t come soon enough.
