Google is preparing the end-to-end encryption for the Gmail service, wanting to offer even greater security and privacy to those who visit and use it through a web browser.

According to the company, subscribers to the Google Workspace program will be covered by end-to-end encryption in both the emails they send and those they receive. The beta application concerns users of Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Plus and Education Standard until January 20, 2023, but so far it has not been clarified whether there will be a universal launch from then on that will cover all accounts and ordinary users.

Regardless, this is the first time we've seen end-to-end encryption coming to Gmail. To date, Google ensures user privacy through the TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocol, which theoretically protects emails during their journey from sender to recipient. For the casual user this is probably enough, but clearly enterprise users and businesses have greater needs.

We remind you that in addition to Gmail, the company offers universal end-to-end encryption in Google Docs, Google Sheets, Google Meet, Google Slides and Google Calendar. Users should enable it through their account security settings.
