Google is releasing new tools to Chrome that will help users organize and track their browser tabs across desktop and mobile devices. Chrome for iOS will now support tab groups, allowing users to organize relevant pages in custom-labeled groups, according to a recent blog post from Google.

Once Chrome is updated, iPhone and iPad users can use the functionality by accessing the tab grid, long-pressing a tab, and selecting "Add Tab to New Group." Custom names and colors can then be provided to the newly established tab groups to help them remain structured and clearly identified.

Another feature that is being rolled out to Android and desktop Chrome apps is the ability to sync saved tab groups across various devices. This should allow users to maintain track of any ongoing activity without losing work or individual tabs. If Chrome users begin making holiday arrangements on their phone, for example, they may group those open tabs and instantly sync them to their desktop account if they want to switch to a larger screen. Google claims this update will be available for Chrome on iOS "soon."

Chrome is also testing a feature that suggests websites that were previously visited on other devices, which should decrease the need to bookmark them. When users open a new Chrome tab on Android, iOS, or desktop, the experimental functionality will prompt them to return to certain webpages. Google claims testing will begin "in a couple of weeks," but there is no timetable for broad distribution.
